To use the USB to serial port adaptor to any Omniflex device with Omniset, the following is necessary:
Omniset 7.4 or higher.
An Omniflex device with a serial port.
The USB to serial adaptor.
The COM port number of the USB to serial port adaptor.
If this is the first time you are using your USB to serial adaptor, you will need to setup your computer. Follow the instructions that correspond to the version of Windows your PC is running:
To connect to your USB enabled device using Omniset, start with Omniset closed. Prepare the hardware by doing the following:
With the USB to serial adaptor disconnected, turn on the Omniflex unit.
Once the unit is on, connect the USB to serial adaptor cable to the PC.
Wait a few seconds to ensure the unit has been detected.
Connect the serial port of the adaptor to the Omniflex device.
Open Omniset.
Under the Options menu, select Port Settings…
Under Port Settings, change the number to the number of your COM port.
Click OK.
Omniset has now been successfully set up to use the USB to serial adaptor. If you select Connect... under the File menu, Omniset will search for the Omniflex devices.
If you have trouble connecting to your USB enabled Omniflex device in Omniset, do the following:
Close Omniset
Make sure you use the same USB port on your computer every time.
With your Omniflex device on, disconnect the USB plug of the USB to serial adaptor and reconnect it.
Wait a few seconds for the PC to detect the device.
Make sure you have the correct COM port number.
Reopen Omniset.
