To use the USB to serial port adaptor to any Omniflex device with Omniset Pro, the following is necessary:
Omniset Pro 7.4 or higher.
An Omniflex device with a serial port.
The USB to serial adaptor.
The COM port number of the USB to serial port adaptor.
If this is the first time you are using your USB to serial adaptor, you will need to setup your computer. Follow the instructions that correspond to the version of Windows your PC is running:
To add the virtual COM port to the Conet Server:
Open Omniset Pro.
In the system tray, double-click the Conet Server (7.3) icon.
Under the Edit menu select "Change Hardware Settings".
Conet Server will ask you to confirm that you are logged in as administrator.
Click Yes to proceed.
In the Hardware Port Setup window, select the first drop down box that says None.
Select the COM port number of your COM port.
Click OK.
To setup the port protocol in Conet Server, while the Conet server window is still open, do the following:
Under the Edit menu, select Add Port.
Enter the text "Conet/s on COM X" in the New Port Name box, where X is the number of your virtual COM Port.
From the drop down menu next to Hardware Port, select the COM port of your COM port. Select OK.
Under Selected Port Settings, chose the following values:
Protocol: Conet/s
Hardware Port: COM X (Where X is the number of your COM port.)
BaudRate: 19200
No Reply Time-Out (ms): 2000
Own ID: 1
Handshake Timeout: 2000
Click OK.
To connect to your USB enabled Omniflex device using Omniset Pro:
In Omniset, if you select Connect... under the File menu:
If Omniset Pro asks you to select the target product group - select the appropriate group.
If the target is not found, select "Change Link" in the pop-up window.
Under Port in the next window, choose Conet/s on COM X where X is the number of your COM port and click OK.
If you have already opened an existing template, do the following to switch to the USB to serial adaptor port:
Under the Remote menu, select File Target Address...
Select Conet/s on COM X where X is the number of your COM port.
Click OK.
Omniset Pro has now been successfully set up to use the USB to serial adaptor. If you select the About This Product group in Omniset Pro, you should see the Alive Counter incrementing. (Ensure that the simulate button is off.)
If you have trouble connecting to your Omniflex device using the USB to serial adaptor in Omniset Pro, do the following:
Make sure you have the right COM port number.
Make sure you use the same USB port on your computer every time.
With Omniset Pro open, right-click the Conet server icon in the system tray.
Click Disable All Com Ports.
With your Omniflex device on, disconnect the USB to serial adaptor and reconnect it.
Wait a few seconds for the PC to detect the device.
Right-click the Conet server icon in the system tray.
Click Enable All Com Ports.
